Heather was babysitting a 2 month old infant the evening of July 14, 1999 in a friend's apartment. At about 2:00am the morning of July 15th, 1999, a neighbor saw a child, believed to be Heather, being carried out of the apartment by an unknown white male. She was wrapped in a comforter. Investigators found a small amount of blood inside the apartment.
Heather's photo is shown age-progressed to 15 years by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

14 juillet 1999 dans l'appartement d'un ami. A environ 02.00heures du matin ,
un voisin vit un enfant, probablement Heather,
emmené hors de l'appartement par un homme blanc
inconnu. Elle était enveloppée dans une couverture
blanche. Les enquêteurs ont trouvé une petite
quantité de sang dans l'appartement.
